I have the SwagButton installed on Chrome....or rather, I used to have. Just today I noticed some odd behaviour happening; random pop-ups of spam sites like fake news outlets and pushy Javascript prompts saying I won a free iPhone.
So, I ran a scan with Adwcleaner, a renowned adware removal tool, and guess what I found? All "threats" on my computer came from one central source in Chrome: an extension with the ID of
gngocbkfmikdgphklgmmehbjjlfgdemm
You know whose ID that belonged to? The SwagButton. If you don't believe me, it's right in the URL of the official SwagButton on the Chrome store itself:
I went through the removal process with Adwcleaner, and pop-ups have ceased to show up. I scanned my system with various anti-virus and anti-malware programs before and after which came up clean, so no, nothing injected the extension with adware.
Has anyone experienced this yet? As I said earlier, I only encountered this adware starting earlier today.

I've used AVG protection for a number of years now, and I recommend this antivirus to all you.
I really appreciate the way you explain things. It not helped me but made it easy to understand more about Adware.
